Catapults are vehicles that have the unique function of throwing objects, players, and other structures far away with its hinge-powered arm. It is often used for traversing islands and as a "glider booster", as well as for bypassing defensive structures from above. They can also be used to burn wooden buildings from afar by fire-proofing the catapult and sending burning objects towards them.
Uses
The catapult has a few uses, mostly for convenience, but their hinges are a key part of some builds.
It has an energy changer which is located inside the progress bar that appears when you sit. It can go anywhere from 100 to 300, with higher numbers flinging the object farther. To change it, all you need to do is click inside the bar and type the number you want.
Placing these on islands and pointing them towards nearby islands is a good way to traverse between them, as long as they are within range.
Using a catapult with a glider is the easiest way to get some altitude when you don't have any high ground available. Set the energy amount to maximum and activate the glider at the highest point and you'll have enough altitude to reach long distances by gliding.
The glider-catapult interaction is also a good way to catch up to people you may be chasing in combat. If you always carry a catapult down, you can place it down and use the glider to reach them quickly from above without any chance of your enemy countering you other than staying on the move and praying you can't reach them in time.
Another popular combo is using the glider and catapult altitude gain to bombard enemy positions with grenades. If done right, you are able to cause a great amount of chaos by exploding wooden structures and weakening stone buildings for a later attack. However, be careful to not fly too low or you may end up landing right in the middle of the area you are bombarding, so always leave some space for retreating after a bombrun and don't get too greedy by turning back for more.
Catapult hinges are able to be removed and attached to other objects. This allows for creations that would otherwise be impossible to properly build due to lack of hinges, such as the trebuchet below.
