Overview

Cacti are green blocks that are found in deserts and in some savannah islands. It stands out due to its weldable surfaces, which allow for sticking to any structure or surface with the exception of tools and other items that can be equipped such as shields, backpacks, etc. It comes in two varieties: cactus and cactus pad, the latter being a smaller 2x2x1 variation of the normal cactus that is only found in the prickly pear plant.

Uses

Pieces of cacti can be used for a lot of things, mainly for building purposes, but they are also useful when navigating around the map and in other niche situations.

  • Keeping two of them in your inventory at all times is helpful for climbing mountains, player-built walls, and other places where you'd be forced to stack blocks up to reach. Placing both down and jumping on them as you go up, reusing the previous as the next step, works for nearly any situation.
  • They can be attached to boats and other vehicles. This allows for extensive customization of said vehicles, letting you create anything from simple trebuchets to fully fledged tanks and planes. If you are curious about what more can be done with cactus, check out the showcase section.
  • When building structures with cactus, always keep in mind that they can be dragged. If something in your build depends on cactus holding it in place, make sure to hide the cactus or add multiple pads to weak points as a way of preventing griefing. Painting the cactus with colors that match your build is also a good way of disguising them.
  • Attaching cactus to the ground and placing a ship on top is a great way to 'anchor' the ship so it does not move or get stolen as you customize it, but be careful as trying to drive it while it is still attached will result in the loss of your seat. That means you'll be forced to build the ship again, as you cannot deconstruct it due to the lack of a seat which is the controlling part.
